Aesthetic treatment in Thailand is often planned like a holiday. A week off work, a flight, a clinic appointment in the middle, and home again. It sounds efficient. It is also where most of the problems start.
The treatment itself may go exactly as planned. What tends to go wrong is everything around it: decisions made too quickly, recovery squeezed into the last few days, and follow-up that has nowhere to happen once you are home.
Give yourself time to decide
A consultation is a chance to ask questions, not a booking. You should leave it with enough information to say no, as well as yes.
Ask the doctor what they recommend and why, what the realistic result looks like for someone like you, and what the risks are. Ask what recovery involves, day by day. If you are offered additional procedures during the consultation, take time to think about them separately.
If possible, have your first consultation by video before you travel. Then the in-person appointment confirms a decision you have already had time to make.
Be careful with packages
Packages that bundle treatment, hotel and transfers can be convenient. Read them closely. Check which doctor will treat you, what follow-up is included, and what happens if you need to stay longer or come back. A low headline figure with a short stay built in can push you toward leaving before you are ready.
Plan recovery in Thailand, not on the plane
Most aesthetic treatments need some recovery time before flying. How much depends on the treatment and on you, and only the doctor can tell you. Ask before you book your return flight, and plan for the longer end of what they say.
Recovery is also when you will want to look after yourself rather than explore. A calm hotel close to the clinic, where you can rest, order food easily and attend follow-up appointments, usually works better than a busy tourist area.
Know what follow-up looks like at home
Aesthetic treatment does not end at the clinic door. Before you leave Thailand, ask:
- What follow-up do I need, and when?
- What can my doctor at home handle, and what needs this clinic?
- How do I contact the clinic after I return, and in which language?
- If I am unhappy with something, what is the process?
Ask for a written summary of what was done, with any product names and details, so your doctor at home has the full picture.
Bring someone, or have someone there
The first day or two after some treatments can be uncomfortable. Having someone with you, even for short visits, makes a difference. If you are travelling alone, it is worth arranging this before you arrive.
Where we come in
We help you compare clinics, prepare questions for consultations, and plan a stay with real time to recover. We arrange your accommodation and transport, accompany you to appointments with interpreting where needed, and make sure follow-up is in place before you fly home.
If you are considering aesthetic treatment in Thailand, start with a conversation.
Brivana is a coordination service. Clinical diagnosis and treatment remain with the hospital and the treating physician.
